Michelle: The Whispering Woman

<I would consider this dream creepy. However, it's also kind of funny in parts. This is the second dream in which I have done a VERY subpar impression of a cartoon character I am only mildly interested in! My brain truly amazes me sometimes with what it decides to pull from the recesses of my memories!>

I was driving to a place that looked like an amusement park, but I was going there to get a job. When I pull up to the place, there is a giant roller coaster that looks like The Vortex from King's Island. On top of the first big loop is a set of train tracks where there are freight trains being loaded and unloaded. I climb up to the tracks and see about 4 men wearing full-body jumpsuits (like what you would picture car mechanics wearing) and white masks (the kind that are plastic and devoid of any discernible features besides holes for the eyes, nose, and mouth and a little bump to represent a nose). "What do you guys do here with the stuff you unload?" I holler at one of the men. He lifts up his mask and says "We build moderately-priced homes for Asian families!" (I have no idea how or why my brain fabricated that?) I say that sounds doable and join them. As I'm standing there, a very shabby, dirty-looking cat is just staring at me. Its eyes were HUGE and I felt like something was wrong with it. I ask one of the guys about it and he said "Oh yeah, that cat just comes here and stares at us. My buddy said it's the 'whispering woman.'" ( I understood this concept as a classic Japanese legend but I don't think I've heard of anything like this in real life. In the dream, I understood this to mean the whispering woman was an entity that transforms into a cat in the day, but changes back into a horrific thing at night. I pictured the image of the slit-faced woman, which is an actual Japanese legend I am familiar with- look it up if you don't know it! Super creepy!) The cat glares at me the whole time I'm working, but I kept myself from getting scared by trying to pet it and talking to it in a high-pitched, baby talk way that I would any other cat. At the end of the day, the men invite me to stay the night so that I can work the next day. Across the tracks is a cramped little room where there are four beds all crammed together at odd angles (the foot of the bed I chose was connected to the middle of the bed in front of it). I climb in bed and the cat jumps in with me. I felt uneasy, but I reassured myself that the guy's friend was probably just trying to scare him with the legend. The cat glared at me with its saucer-like eyes and started hissing and growling over and over. Jokingly, I say to the guy near me "That cat ain't right" (in a Hank Hill voice) <Hank Hill is the main character from the show King of the Hill. One of his famous lines is "that boy ain't right," referring to his quirky son. I was clearly referencing this line, I guess trying to make a joke. However, my impression was terrible!>

The guy ignores me, so I say "Did you hear me? I said-" (I then proceeded to repeat the same crappy Hank Hill impression, repeating the same line about the cat). The guy tells me to shut up and go to sleep. Annoyed, I start to close my eyes and try to fall asleep when I hear a hoarse, scraggly breath next to me. In the corner of my eye I can see frizzy black hair. A cold, grey hand grabs my arm and I start to scream!

<I woke myself up with panicked breathing and whimpering. I'm so glad I didn't get a glimpse of what the whispering woman's face looked like- I imagine it would be horrible!>
