Michelle: The Severed Toe

<As the title suggests, my toe gets cut off in this dream. It gets pretty detailed and graphic, so if you are a bit squeamish I suggest reading this dream with caution. I am also going to go ahead and apologize in advance for the Pokemon references that are mentioned in the beginning of this dream. Although Pokemon are neither the main focus nor the most interesting aspect of this dream, there is still a lot of Pokemon talk in the beginning that could get annoying/confusing for people unfamiliar with the franchise. I was playing a Pokemon game pretty frequently when I had this dream, which I think definitely contributed to the specific Pokemon details found in it. Don't worry, Pokemon only appear in the first 2 paragraphs!>

I was playing a Pokemon videogame upstairs in my room, except the Pokemon that were in my game were somehow projected out into the real world. I had a machop but it resembled a machamp minus two arms (people who like/know about Pokemon will get what I mean). Anne walked in with 6 digletts following her (I guess that was her entire Pokemon team?) and challenged me to a duel. I agreed, but as the fight went on I noticed my machop only knew the move "dig." I was so frustrated since a machop is known for its fighting moves, yet mine knew none! Plus, diglett's whole thing is that it digs well, so I knew my machop's dig would pale in comparison to Anne's numerous digletts! As the fight went on, my machop and the 6 digletts started to dig holes all around my room (this is strange since in real-life my room is on the second floor of the house, but dream logic is not always bound by reality). My machop was losing and dug a hole under my bookshelf; the digletts followed. When I peered into the hole, I noticed a deep cavern full of water. I jumped in to help save my machop. It was dark, but the light shining in from the hole illuminated an area at the bottom of the cavern. It was a total mess under the water! The bottom looked like the debris and gunk pulled from the river spirit in the movie Spirited Away- tons of sharp metal poles and junk covered in a thick, brown muck.

There were dead bodies littering the floor, as well. Many were women with long hair that floated up like seaweed. I was extremely repulsed by what I saw and wanted to find my machop and get out of there. I found him fighting only three digletts now. They were trying to push him into a pole on the cavern floor. I swam over, grabbed him, and kicked at one of the remaining digletts. As I did that, hair from one of the bodies wrapped around my ankle. I tried kicking it away, but I noticed the body being pulled out of the muck from my movements and start to float towards me. I freaked out and kicked even harder to free my ankle, accidentally ramming my big toe into a pole. I managed to get loose and swam out of the cavern.

The dream cuts to me out of the hole and sitting in my room. I'm inspecting my toe that I rammed into the pole. It's my big toe on the right foot. I was annoyed because this was my "good" foot (I have a broken toe on my left foot that never healed properly in real life). I noticed little cuts on either side of the toe. I moved my fingers gently over the cuts to inspect them when the entire top of my toe detached in my hand (think of the ease and sensation of pulling a slice of orange away from the rest of the fruit).

The entire top half of my toe had fallen off; there was no blood, but the exposed wound was releasing clear fluid (it looked like when you cut into an aloe plant). Instead of a bone sticking out in the cross section where the toe was severed, it looked like the cross section of an aloe plant with a faint fingerprint design. I wasn't scared because I convinced myself that if I could bandage the parts of my toe back together, then they would grow back and fuse together. I limped downstairs, searching for bandages. I could only find bandaids. I placed several around my toe, attempting to stick the two parts together, but as soon as I let go the top part just rolled off. Now I was freaking out, because I knew I'd need a doctor to stitch the parts of my toe together (I thought about doing it myself but I thought it would get infected). I immediately started screaming to get my mom's attention.

My mom appears and asks me what's wrong. I tell her that my toe has been cut in two, and hold up the top piece of my toe to show her what I mean. She immediately acts angry and disgusted, saying "Ugh don't show me that! What did you do!?" I told her it happened while I was playing Pokemon but she was convinced it was because my dad had "pulled one of his pranks" and it had gone too far. The dream cuts to my mom yelling at my dad and telling him to leave the house. I'm holding a bowl and trying to find ice to put in it to keep the severed toe cool (I've read this is what you should do when you've severed something and want to get it reattached). I ask my mom where the ice is but she tells me I don't need ice. She tells me to put the toe in the bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. I do, but now the toe looks very bloody and starts to shrivel up. She says that she just needs to go brush her teeth then we can leave for the hospital (this is funny because she brushes her teeth any time we are about to leave the house in real life). My toe is pulsing with pain and I start to cry. My mom gets annoyed but says "If it hurts THAT bad then put on some clothes and we'll go!" (At this point I was wearing a nightgown).

The dream cuts to me trying to put on a pair of jeans in my room. My foot keeps getting caught in the pants leg, causing the denim to rub against my fresh toe wound (every time it hit my toe, I got the sensation of when a raw blister is rubbed by a shoe when walking). I'm angry that my pants are hard to get on, and am crying at the pain and frustration. My mom is standing next to me. I ask her if she thinks they'll put me to sleep before sewing the halves of my toe together. She reassures me that she can't imagine why they wouldn't. Then I ask, "What if they can't sew the halves together?" She replies, "Well it's a good thing you have such long toes! Nobody will notice the difference!" I look down at my foot, see the noticeable difference in length between my injured toe and my other non-injured toes, and angrily think about how wrong she is.

The dream cuts to us in the car. I thought we were driving to the hospital but my mom stops at Chipotle. She told me that she wanted to take me out to eat and that my dad never wants to go here with her. We walk inside and see my dad working behind the counter, making people's food. My mom is so flattered, saying that it was nice of him to work here, even though he hates this place, to help pay for my surgery. Then I woke up!

<This dream makes me feel sick just thinking about it! As soon as I woke up, I noticed my big toe was sticking out of the covers and was in direct line of the fan I keep near my bed. The fan was blowing directly on my toe, making it feel very cold. I think this contributed to the contents of this dream.>
