Michelle: The Business of Cloning

Updated: Nov 5, 2021

This dream is a little funky. I am not myself in this dream but a British man. I still form my own thoughts and see the dream through a first-person perspective, but I know that I am not myself in real life. Although I don't see myself, I know that I look like the actor who played "The Axeman" in AHS Coven (a google search revealed that his name is Danny Huston). Sometimes I switch perspectives between this man and my real self, so bear with me!

I live in a city in a post-apocalyptic world. There is little food and all of the stores and shops have been looted. I'm traveling with a group of scavengers. We're walking towards a giant building that looks like a warehouse, but I understand it to be a movie theater. It says "Eurovision" on the side. I understood Eurovision to be a mega corporation in the area that has taken over (not the popular song contest that exists in real life). I understand now that the world isn't post-apocalyptic but rather this company has taken over the city and created a stark divide between the poor neighborhood (our neighborhood) and the rich area. They have simply cut me and my people off from the resources.

We walk into the theater and find that it's packed full of people. Suddenly I am no longer the British man but am myself again (female Michelle). I am with my boyfriend, Michael, and we are trying to find a place to sit. I'm excited to see the show, as I heard this theater puts on amazing performances. It's hard to find empty seats, but we manage to find two seats together near the middle of the theater. There are all kinds of performances going on throughout the different seat isles, such as people juggling, contortionists, dancers, etc., everyone wearing weird, extravagant costumes. A man wearing a tall praying mantis costume comes over and bats at me with his buggy hand. I think it was meant to startle me as a joke, so I laugh to play along.

The lights in the theater dim, but no show plays. The crowd is getting angry and restless. People begin to chant and demand that a show be put on. I look over at Michael for comfort, as the crowd's anger is worrying me. I see that he has turned into a little dog. I am now the British man again. A man who looks like Higgins from the show Ted Lasso stands up and looks over at me. I understood him to be one of my roommates (or should I say flatmates? I am British after all!). He points to me and says to the crowd, "I have an idea! Let's eat (he said my name but I can't remember what it was) and his little friend (my dog) while we wait for the show to start!" The whole crowd was staring at me now, hungrily. His suggestion is met by a chorus of cheers and enthusiastic "yeah!"s, so I book it out of there as fast as I can.

The theater is connected to a multi-story building containing multiple business offices. I realize this is the headquarters of Eurovision. The crowd is chasing after me, so I try to find some stairs to run down (somehow we are on a middle floor of the building even though the theater appeared to be on the ground floor- dream logic is silly!). Each floor has an open concept with stairs located in the middle of the room. I am able to look down the stairwell and see the bottom floor. I run down a couple flights of stairs with the crowd hot on my heels. I decide to take a chance and jump down the middle of the stairwell. Instead of plummeting to my death (there had to have been over twenty floors to fall down), I float gracefully down to the bottom.

The bottom floor is no longer an open concept but a series of conference rooms and offices. All of the walls are glass. I duck into a conference room to try to blend in with all of the office workers. I get a feeling of dread. I think to myself that this company must be running a secret, sinister project, since a company this big and with so many offices must be doing more than running a theater in our crappy part of town. Plus, this company completely destroyed my neighborhood! A woman working at a desk sees me and runs over. "Can I help you?" She's wary of me. "Hello, I'm here to take a tour!" I say, smiling. Now she looks at me suspiciously. "A tour?" "Yes! I'm a fellow business enthusiast from America! I've heard so much about your company and had to see it for myself!" She relaxes and smiles. "Oh, of course! Follow me!" She leads me to an elevator. Inside is a girl from the angry mob looking for me. She looks over at me, but doesn't seem to recognize me. My plan worked!

The floors on the elevator are labeled in reverse order, so the top floor is labeled 1. She takes us there. She shows me around and takes me onto an outdoor balcony. She asks me to wait here while she talks to her boss. I see a plate piled high with cheese and bread. I look over the balcony and see people from the mob scouring the grounds looking for me. One of them I understood to be my other roommate, who looks like the guy with glasses from the movie Shaun of the Dead. I take a piece of bread and throw it at him. He looks up at me gratefully. I blow him a kiss and wave.

The woman comes back outside and tells me we are going to floor 2. "Now you'll get to see what you really came here for!" Floor 2 is much different from the other floors. There are no windows and the room is not an open concept. I'm lead to a small room with two contraptions sitting on a desk. There is a door next to me that is slightly ajar. A red light is on the door, and the room inside is pitch black. I can't see what's inside, but I can hear the beeping of medical equipment. On the desk is a thick binder full of papers and organizers. Next to it is what looks like an open laptop, but underneath the keys is a series of needles drawing zigzags on a paper, like a seismograph with multiple needles. Each needle has a tiny picture of a person attached. The woman opens the binder and hands me a picture. "This is what we're currently working on. What do you think?" I look at the picture and am horrified and repulsed.

The picture is of a deformed woman. Her body is of normal proportions, but her neck extends several feet in the air and curls above her body. The neck is thick like that of a giraffe, and lining the length of the neck is long, straggly black hair. Her face is tiny and white, with little shiny black almonds for eyes. Her face is painted to look like a porcelain doll. Next to this woman is an even worse abomination. Picture a CatDog version of this woman that is like a continuous neck with a head on each end with long, black hair covering much of the body. Each side has two long, boney arms that allow the thing to walk. I'm speechless. I look around the room and see piles of clothes and shoes. I realize now that this company has been abducting people from my neighborhood and conducting horrific experiments on them and making gruesome clone abominations with them. I tell the woman I would like to leave. She looks at me and says, "You can try." I glance back into the dark room and hear labored breathing. I know the things from the picture are in that room, and this woman is going to put me in there with them! I start to scream. I'm trying to scream as loud as I can to warn the others. I run, trying to find the elevator. Then I woke up, feeling panicked and trying to force out a scream!
