Michelle: In the Jungle

I was eating in a restaurant with some guy who I don't recognize. I was drinking a really thick, green shiny liquid. It was sweet and I seemed to enjoy it. The guy went up to the front counter to pay the check and I followed him to get a refill of my drink. The drink came out of a dispenser that looked like any other pop dispenser in a restaurant. It was right next to the counter where you pay, so I was able to hear the guy I ate with talk to the man behind the counter. I heard the guy behind the counter ask the man if he enjoyed his meal. He said yes, but that it would've been much better if she (me) hadn't gotten SO drunk! He gestured over in my direction and the two men burst into laughter. I was furious. I was not drunk in any way, and I was embarrassed that the counter guy thought that I would allow myself to get drunk in such a casual restaurant during the day.

The dream cuts to me following my companion from the restaurant out in a jungle. I am keeping my distance because I was still angry with him. There is another woman with us, walking between the man and me. We are wading through dark, murky water that comes up to our waists. I watch as a monkey climbs down from a nearby tree and jumps into the water. Suddenly the woman stops and looks terrified. She told us that we needed to leave because that monkey "didn't look right." The man keeps walking, so we all continue to follow him. I keep dunking my head underwater to try to locate the monkey. I see it swimming in strange circles underwater, then it darts toward the woman at lightning speed and latches onto her arm. I hear her scream, so I resurface to see what's going on. The monkey screeches an ear-piercing shriek then chomps down on the woman's arm. The monkey's eyes were bizarre- its pupils were dilated, and the white parts were entirely red and bloodshot. As it bit into the woman, its eyes went completely white and it fell into the water, dead. The woman looked at us in horror. The man and I exchanged glances- he looked terrified. The woman's eyes slowly turned completely black, and she started to shake and whimper. The man told me to help him bring her to shore so we could take her to a nearby village.

The dream cuts to us in the village. The man asks the leader if they have a cure in his village. The leader gestures to a catapult. We took this to mean the disease was incurable and that those infected must be killed. I also understood this to mean that those infected become a threat to those around them. I hear the woman whimper, "what's happening to me?" I look over and see her eyes change again. This time, the black is shrinking to look like dilated pupils. The whites of her eyes become red and bloodshot (like the monkey). The veins around her face become dark purple. The man says, "Here comes the rage, then sadness." The woman's face contorts into an expression of pure rage- her brow furrowed and her mouth twisted into an exaggerated snarl. She then screamed loudly at us, almost like a roar. Villagers rush to her and tie her up, then start to drag her to the catapult. Suddenly her expression changed into one of extreme sadness and fear. She cries at me, "Don't let me die like this!" I feel bad for and am upset with the situation. She starts to change into her rage face again- then I woke up!
