<For whatever reason, I tend to have very vivid nightmares that cause me to wake myself up screaming. This was one of the most memorable and terrifying dreams I have had in a while. Apparently my screams were so loud that they caused my voice to crack. I can still remember the horrific movements of the creature in the dream. I still shudder at the thought.>
I was at my childhood home. Unlike in most of my dreams where locations of real places are a bit warped and inaccurate, this dream version of my house perfectly matched my house in real life, including the kitchen full of my mother's plants. Anne, Marie, my dad, and I were preparing for some holiday, but I could not shake a heavy feeling that something was very wrong with the house. I kept seeing little flashes of light in the corners of rooms and I witnessed a cold, misty air drift from the ceiling of the family room while I was watching TV. I was afraid of these strange anomalies and tried to tell Marie that I was seeing things, but she told me to quit being ridiculous. She and I baked cookies to prepare for guests that were coming to our holiday party. The guests who arrived were: Elizabeth, my Uncle Mike, a boy I used to know named Clifton, and a group of men with a young boy who I remember used to frequent the restaurant I used to work at in real life. In the dream I understood them to be family. Marie and I created enormous stacks of the cookies that completely covered the huge table we had in the dining room. I told everyone to have some, as I was proud of the work Marie and I had done. Everyone grabbed some cookies and began to eat and chat. Everything seemed fine, and after a while they left the dining room to chat in the kitchen, leaving me alone in the dining room. I stayed to grab some oatmeal butterscotch cookies. I looked toward the crowd in the kitchen for a second, but when I turned back to face the cookies all of the stacks had been knocked over and the cookies were left in a pile in the corner of the room. I started to freak out internally, but I tried to remain calm on the surface so as not to scare anyone. I returned the cookies to the table and turned to leave toward the kitchen where everyone else was talking. As I was leaving I turned to look back into the dining room and noticed that the cookies had once again been knocked to the floor. I was terrified and immediately thought that this must be a poltergeist. Still, in order to keep everyone from freaking out I calmly moved the cookies back to the table. This time, when I looked down at the cookies they had turned into little chocolate-dipped, cat-shaped cookies. I took this to mean that the ghost was rewarding me for not telling anyone about what I had seen and that it liked me. This calmed me down, so I returned to the kitchen to to join everyone else.
We eventually moved to the family room and I ended up standing in the middle of the room facing some people sitting on the couch. From this angle, I had a perfect view of the hallway. I saw a little fluffy cat sitting in the hallway. Its eyes were piercing white lights beaming right at me. It made me feel very unsettled. I looked away to see if anyone noticed, but everyone kept talking and laughing and having an all-around good time. I looked back into the hallway and this time there were what seemed like 50 of that same cat, all with their glowing white eyes pointed right at me. This upset me, so I suggested that we all go back into the kitchen to eat. Everyone agreed, so we all moved again to the kitchen. My cat was scratching at the door, so I let her into the house. She immediately began to hiss and growl and swivel her head all around as if she was trying to follow hundreds of invisible things flying all around her. I said, "It's like she sees things we don't," but Marie dismissed my comment by saying, "She probably just got into some catnip!" I followed my cat as she hissed and swatted at invisible things in the air through the kitchen and to the hallway. Suddenly her body was bent (it looked like someone had tried to fold her in half) and she was flung fiercely against the wall. I screamed and ran back into the kitchen to tell everyone what had happened. I was interrupted by the young boy who was with the group of men, who said, "Where are the balloons? I want to pop them!" Suddenly he began to levitate and twist through the air. One of the men screamed at everyone to help him get this boy down but no one could get to him. Everyone was screaming and panicking. Anne and I ran into the hallway between the dining room and kitchen and looked at each other sternly. We were both aware of paranormal things and knew that something that was able to levitate the boy like that was something more serious than a ghost. The boy began to scream then was jammed into the door frame of the dining room. His body was contorted to look like Christ hanging on the cross. His eyes became all white then he moaned and hung his head. Everyone screamed and tried to push toward the door to exit, but the state of panic everyone was in created a jam. Anne looked at me and said "Michelle, this looks like a crucifix! I think you were right, there is something bad in this house!" Suddenly a huge, deep gash was slashed into her arm. She screamed, "Did you see that!?" Suddenly her whole body started to get covered with these slashes. She was sputtering from the pain and said "Wait, why won't it hurt you?" Everyone around us started to get sliced up, as well, and I saw several people fall down (I'm assuming they died at this point).
I was crying and felt so scared that I could not scream. I began to back into the corner of the dining room, dragging Anne's limp body with me. I look up to see a creature glide out of the opposite corner of the room to Anne and I. Its back was hunched over and it had a huge black cloak covering its body. Its horrible fingers were these long, thin, bony things that wriggled like worms with long black nails on the ends. Its skin was chalky white, and it wriggled its fingers at Anne giddily, as if it saw something it wanted. I screamed out "No! No! No! Move, Anne!" She was too hurt, so she could not move away as it wrapped its fingers around her head and face. Her eyes rolled back into her head until they were all white, and she let out a piercing, pained screech. I watched the life drain from her body into the creature. I was bawling and trying to scream but I could not get any sound out. The thing finally looked up at me to reveal its horrendous face. Its face was gaunt and bony; it looked like a skull covered by a thin layer of chalky white skin. Its eyes were all white, lined with wet, pink membranes and veins. Instead of a nose it had a black hole, like that of a skull, but skin hung around the hole like little fleshy horns. Its mouth looked like a huge rip in its face that was filled with tiny white, sharp teeth. I could feel its hatred as it looked right at me. Then its mouth opened wide and it let out a huge roar at me. At this point I finally was able to let out a scream which ended up waking me up.
<As I said, my scream was so loud and powerful it caused my voice to crack. I am not sure why I would have a nightmare as awful as this, but I hope to never see that horrible face ever again.>
